For The Strength of Youth

We just want to remind our girls of the importance of the "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet. Please try to make a goal to read out of it frequently. It is filled with standards that each Young Woman should strive for. Parents are encouraged to read it with their Young Woman as well. Setting an example for our girls is one of the most important things! If you make an effort to read the pamphlet often, your lives will be truly blessed!

Combined Mutual

We will be combined this Wednesday with the Young Men. Meet at the church at 7:00!

Girl's Camp June 26-29

Girl's Camp is coming up! Below you will find information about Girl's Camp as well as a packing list. If you have questions, contact the numbers in the next post of the leaders in charge of camp. Can't wait to see you all there!

Girl's Camp Information

Picket Lane Girl’s Camp 2012 June 26 – 29 Dear Parents: Our Stake theme this year for camp is “Arise & Shine to C.E.R.E.A.L. (Christ’s Eternal Role Enriches All Life)”. They have asked each ward to represent a cereal and a value from the YW’s theme. Our ward will represent Marshmallow Mateys and the value of Integrity. We are really excited about the fun and growth we will have being the Mighty Mateys: Pirates with Integrity. We have been teaching the girls to be a different kind of pirate – one who shares her “treasure”, or light of Christ, with everyone. Girl’s camp will be held at the Aspencrest again (near Kamas and Woodland, about 1 ½ hours from Stansbury). We will be meeting at the church at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, June 26. Please be on time because we will be leaving promptly for camp at 7:00 AM. We will return home from camp the following Friday morning/afternoon. Attached to this letter, we are providing you with a camping list with items that are needed and/or suggested for each girl to bring. Please contact any Camp or YW leaders if you have questions or problems regarding any items on the list. **Remember that an air mattress may be brought, but there is no guarantee that there will be space to use it. Shorts, sleeveless shirts, bare midriffs, and immodest pajamas are not allowed. Capris are okay as long as they are below the knee when sitting. Please make sure the girls pack clothes that are appropriate for hiking and camping so they can be comfortable and safe. Make sure you daughter has at least one pair of shoes suitable for hiking. We have assigned each girl a “Secret Sister”. Each girl will give her secret sister three inexpensive gifts. Please keep the total amount spent under five dollars. Secret Sister assignments should be attached to your packet. Please remember that cell phones, mp3 players and other electronics are not allowed for use at camp (there is no cell service in our campground anyway). If any electronics are brought, camp leaders will hold onto them until the end of camp. Also, pranks at camp aren’t allowed as they can easily hurt the feelings of others or cause injury to fellow campers. We are so excited to be a part of Girls Camp this year! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you! Here is a packing list for trek:  Camel pack, canteen or attachable water bottle  Personal first-aid kit or equivalent including: ...band-aids, antibiotics (Neosporin), moleskin (blisters), Tweezers, A&D or Desitin, baby powder (for chafing) etc.  Personal care kit including: ...Hand sanitizer, deodorant, comb (brush), wash cloth, hand towel, tooth brush & paste, feminine hygiene products, prescriptions, allergy medication, insect repellant (should contain DEET), sunscreen & sunglasses.  Small flashlight with fresh batteries  Hat...should have broad brim to offer most sun protection; this includes hats for girls  Pajamas  Rain slicker or poncho and medium weight coat  Walking/hiking shoes...must be broken-in (NOT NEW!!!!)  Warm sleeping bag, pillow and sleeping pad...all rolled together and not to exceed 6” across (we’ll be lenient!)  One complete change of clothing including undergarments; 3 extra pairs of comfortable socks  Sturdy gloves  Journal or pad to record thoughts, impressions, activities  Personal mess kit or pie tin with fork  A five-gallon bucket with lid ITEMS TO CONSIDER:  Your hat should have a broad brim and a chin strap (do you think the wind might blow in Skull Valley?); a bandanna for your neck would be a good idea.  Modesty will be key when deciding what you should wear and what pajamas to bring. Book of Mormon in 80 days challenge

On Sunday we received a chart to start a challenge. We would love for all the girls to read the Book of Mormon in 80 days. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Christ as well as be able to work on the Virtue Personal Progress project. If you did not receive a chart, please let one of the Young Women Presidency know, and we will get you one!

Trek Update

The previous trek post said to have everything packed in a 10 gallon bucket. It is NOT a 10 gallon bucket, it is a FIVE gallon bucket. Sorry for the mis-information! It has been corrected in the trek post as well.

Girl's Camp Activity: Wednesday May 30

Come to the church and meet in the BACK nursery room at 7:00pm. We will NOT be meeting with the Young Men for opening exercises. Come in clothes you can get dirty!

Trek Information

Here is the information about Trek the Stake provided us with: How will trek be organized? You will know which families you're in and who your "youth family leaders" are. Two families will have a couple acting as co-captains to assist the youth family leaders. Approx 12-14 families will comprise a company which will be led by a Trail Boss and Assistant Trail Boss. There are 3 companies. Furthermore, 3 medical staff will be assigned to each company. Misc items you may find helpful: *Bring comfortable hiking shoes *Bring a second pair of hiking shoes-you may get your first pair wet or muddy! *Bring sunscreen!! *DRINK WATER!!! LOTS OF WATER!!!! *Read your scriptures each day :) Day of Departure: *DO NOT BE LATE!!!!!! We will leave on time!!!! *If you are not 45 minutes early, you will be late!!!! *Eat breakfast (a GOOD breakfast) before you come...NO breakfast will be served the first day. *Bring your lunch for the first day! Bring more than a lunchable. You WILL get hungry! *Did we mention DO NOT BE LATE!!!! *Trek will be on the "buddy system"...kind of like missionaries, you will go forth in "two's." *DON'T BE LATE!!! Thoughts on why we go to trek: Trek takes the place of youth conference so we want it to be fun. But Trek has a higher purpose-it is intended to build a link between you and your pioneer heritage. Our ancestors truly did suffer physically, but your challenges today are just as difficult, and, from an eternal perspective, perhaps even more dangerous. Through physical challenges our pioneer ancestors found their Heavenly Father in a manner otherwise unattainable; today we find our Heavenly Father by carefully navigating temptations the likes of which our ancestors couldn't imagine. You're up to the task, this trek should help. Other helpful info: *EVERYTHING must be packed in a 5 gallon bucket, INCLUDING your lunch for the first day. The only thing that is not included in your bucket is your sleeping gear.
